Bassist Jason Newsted left Metallica and joined Voivod.   Messiah Marcolin reunited with Candlemass.   Bassist Jeff Pilson left Dokken.

IMPORTANT EVENTS

Celtic Frost reformed   Death Angel reformed   Rush reformed.   Chuck Schuldiner of Death, Voodoocult and Control Denied passed away.    Slayer released God Hates Us All on 9/11.    Thrash of the Titans festival was held for Chuck Billy who had cancer and Chuck Schuldiner   who har a brain tumor. This led to comebacks for several thrash metal bands.    2001 was a great comeback year for thrash metal with Sodom's M-16, Kreator's Violent   Revolution, Destruction's The Antichrist.   Guitarist James Murphy (Death, Obituary & Testament) learned he had a massive brain   tumor.
