DAVE LINSK

OVERKILL & / SPEED \ KILL / HATE \

Guitarist Dave Linsk, Drummer Tim Mallare and Guitarist Derek 'The Skull'Tailer are members of East coast thrashers Overkill but lately they have teamed up and launched a side project called Speed Kill Hate together with vocalist Mario Frasca. Speed Kill Hate had some similarities to Overkill but their sound is a bit more aggressive with some groove metal influences. Now, over to guitarist Dave Linsk.

Isn't it hard to juggle with two bands, both Overkill and Speed Kill Hate?

I don`t find it hard to have the two bands at all. I am always writing material and I am in contact with everyone very often, when I am out with overkill I spend the majority of my time writing new speed kill hate songs.

Which of those two bands comes first for you?

Well I would say that SPEED KILL HATE is like my baby. I created it and am really excited about it,and I am looking forward to touring with this band, overkill is a big part of me too but I do most of the writing with  S.K.H., therefore it is something I want to see through.

What does the die-hard Overkill fans say about Speed Kill Hate?, Do they like it?

So far every response to the Speed Kill Hate has been nothing but positive, it has been discussed on the overkill forum and all the overkill fans seem to love it. I think that this style of music has been missing for a while and will be well received by the all the fans of thrash metal music.

How did guys you come up with the name "Speed Kill Hate"?

I came up with the name speed kill hate, we were going to call the band throat. I saw there was a band in europe called throat so I decided to put together 3 words to some up what the band was to me.

What bands are you influenced by?

I think our influences are all over the place, I would say the majority lays in old thrash metal from the 80`s and 90`s.

What's the highlight of your career?

I think i`m still waitng for the highlight, but so far playing around the world and meeting some cool people i would have never met doing something else.

What do you think of the thrash metal scene today?

I think the thrash metal scene today is making a comeback.......and that`s great and about time.....i think that some bands however are doing a wierd hybrid, heavy in the verse, and lighter in the chorus. I don`t know, I can`t really get used to that.

Any good advice for youngsters that want to start a band?

My advice for the kids starting out is never settle for a member you say "they will catch up" or "in 6 months he will be good". It doesn`t happen. Find the band you know you can create with and start writing. Do what you feel is right and play what you like to hear, not what you think someone else wants to hear, this way you are always satisfied with what you do even if no one else likes it, f they do you both win.

What's your plans for the future?

Future plans for me are to shop speed kill hate a deal and start touring, and to go out and tour and support the new overkill record.

Do you have any funny metal-story to tell?

A funny story to me is that we (Overkill) were playing a show in lithuania and during the song "Feel the Fire" the building went up in flames, smoke and fire, riots in the streets. Unbelievable, it was insane.
