CRISIX

MARC BUSQUÉ & JAVI CARRIÓN

Crisix from Barcelona, Spain is a relatively new thrash metal band. They started in 2008 as Crysys but soon after they changed their name into Crisix. Since then they have released two hugely successful albums (The Menace in 2011 and Rise... Then Rest in 2013). They have gigged with a lot of great bands like Onslaught, Bonded by blood, Angelus Apatrida, Artillery, Gama Bomb, Fueled by Fire, Lazarus A.D. and Evil Dead in their short career. I have spoken to lead guitarist Marc 'Busi' Busqué and drummer Javi Carrión.

Crisix

We can begin with a small presentation of Crisix.

Crisix is a thrash metal band born in Barcelona in 2008 under the name of Crysys. The band was originally formed by Javi Carrión and Marc Torras (ex-members of Shadon). They looked for friends of other local bands to fill their line-up, and this way Marc Busqué (ex-Helltears) and Albert Requena (ex-Face) joined on guitars. The first singer of the band couldn't be present at the presentation's concert, and they decided to replace him with Julián Baz (bassist of Bourbon Society). The group realized that Juli's voice was fitting better to the style that the band was looking for, and they decided to propose him the singer's position, closing out the formation. So, the early days were too damn frantic, composing new songs since the band's first rehearsal, and playing in such great acts as Martohell Open Air or Wacken Open Air in just one year of life.

Did Sony force you to change the name from Crysys til Crisix?

Yes, we had some legal issues with the Sony's videogame Crysis, at the beginning was a fucked up situation and it was very hard to choose a new name, but at the end we liked better so it was a good change for the band.

You won a music competition in Spain, Martohell Metal Rumble, tell us about that.

Martohell Metal Fest was a small heavy metal festival in Barcelona, and they organized a band contest (Martohell Metal Rumble) where the prize was participate in the festival and play with bands like Artillery, Legend Of The Damned, Girlschool, etc. It was a great oportunity for us to make our name stronger in Spain, 'cause were playing together only for five months, so we were very very young band. It was a great experience and we learnt a lot there.

After that you won a record deal with Wacken Records in another competition?

Yes, after Martohell we decided to attend to Wacken Metal Battle 2009 in Spain. The situation was out of our hands, we won in Spain and the Final Competition in Wacken Open Air 2009, we were truly amazed, we have no words to describe that feelings. So, one of the prizes was a record deal with Wacken Records, an european gig and endorsements with brands like Washburn, Eden, etc. BUT that same year the label broke out and we were on our own, no labels and no support, just a fee due to help us to pay the recording budgets.

The Ultra thrash music-video got over 500.000 views on Youtube, That's incredible. Any comments to that?

We're very amazed, and very happy about that, we have the most played thrash music video in Spain. We never thought before that one of our songs had so many buzz in social networks. GREAT!

Crisix - Ultra Thrash

What bands had the biggest influence on Crisix sound?

Bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Sepultura are the fuckin' bible of metal, despite of we are highly influenced by other bands and styles, too, as Rock, Heavy, Death, and some Freak stuff.

Tell us about your debut album The Menace from 2011.

The album came out in Spain in 26th September via Kaiowas Records. After all the troubles we had with the name and the album release it was so fuckin' great see the enermous buzz that the album had in our country, and see the band's name stronger in Spain and South America.

The Menace

You released your second album last year "Rise... Then Rest". Are you satisfied with it and how has it been received by the fans and media?

Yes we're very proud of this new album. It came out in Spain last 30th April 2013, and now it has been unleashed in UK, Europe and North America, so we're DAMN proud of this improvement! The old fans like it, new people like it, that's great. The Media is praising the album, magazines as Rock Hard and Legacy from Germany are talkin' pretty good about it, and some musicians like Gerre from Tankard, Maurice from Legion of the Damned or Nik from Suicidal Angels like the album as well, so they wrote a quote for our label Apostasy Records, that's great!

Your bassist Marc Torras has recently left the band will that change Crisix sound?

Not at all, Dani, the new bassman, has fitted in the band perfectly, being again together as one. You can listen to our new Ghost Cover we did a few months ago, and check it by your own.

How was it to play the Wacken Open Air-festival?

It was a great experience, we can't describe the feelings we felt up there on the stage. It was and honour for us to play twice in the biggest heavy metal festival in the world!!

Ultra thrashers

You have recently signed with Apostasy Records. Tell us a little more about that.

Apostasy Records is a great German independent label with distribution in UK, Europe and North America. We're extremely happy that a German label like Apostasy bet for our work.

What's the highlight of your career?

We guess we can say that our music career is increasing day by day, and we our proud of it.

What's your plans for the near future?

We're planning to tour in europe, and of course, begin to compose and record the third album. We never stop!

Have you got any funny story to tell, if anything weird has happened while touring or so?

We enjoy a lot the touring life, shows and these stuff, and all of this is summed in Julivision. Julivision is a TV show born in 2012 and shows the touring life of the band in and out the gigs. There you'll find a bunch of funny stories.

Any last words for our readers?

Thanx to all Ruuth's Inn readers to waste your time in us, and hope to see you soon on tour! And of course thank you so much for your dedication Jim!!
