AMNESIA - UNKNOWN ENTITY
TESTAMENT SOUNDING THRASH
Amnesia was a melodic thrash metal band from Barnsley, UK. They only released one full-length album and you're looking at it right now. Despite having a rather short career the band shared the stage together with the British thrash metal elite. Toranaga, Sabbat, Lawnmower Deth, Acid Reign, Slammer and Xentrix they've all shared the stage with Amnesia. Their career highlight might be opening up for American metal legends Metal Church in the early 90's.
The Guitar duo Clive Heeley and Simon Fairhurst delivers a few melodies that brings my mind to the Bay Area sound similar to what Exodus and Testament were doing in the late eighties. The British thrash metal band Xentrix also comes to mind while listening to Amnesia. Unknown Entity was produced by Toranaga's guitarist Andy Mitchell and at times Unknown Entity is brilliant album but it has some flaws too, the production is a bit on the low budget side and the vocals are not as powerful as one could have wished for. The album also lacks the superb thrash metal tracks of a band like Testament.
I really like the song The Final Revelation that reminds me a bit of the aforementioned Testament. I guess it's the English accent that brings my mind to NWOBHM legends Angel Witch because I get some vibes from them as well.
The British scene overall had more in similarity with the Bay Area scene so expect some crunchy and quite melodic thrash metal here.
I think that Unknown Entity is brilliant at times, the band showed potential and I would have wished for another album but I think the chances of that are slim to none. Amnesia could have been a contender if they kept going but their legacy is more or less only remembered by a handful of thrash metal nerds that have dug deep enough to come across Amnesia. Which is a bit sad since they were a talented band.
